Hello all you Rhinestone Armadillo readers! I have enjoyed reading the guest posts before me and I always enjoy reading what Miss Laura has to say. I hope that everyone is having a truly awesome Summer!
My Summer would be a lot more awesome if I could get a lot of my projects finished.
Most days I can’t finish a tv show, much less a project. Know what I mean? But I have to do something. I need to. It’s in my dna. I have found that time is usually not the problem. It’s motivation. I want to make some new things for my shop, but by the time I get everything out, I’ve got something else to do. Sigh. Such is my life. My other problem is that I see a million and one things that I want to do. I end up buying supplies for 3 different projects and then don’t do them. Do you do that? Well, I want to change this about myself. Who’s with me?
First step. Get organized. I feel like I am being unbelievably selfish if I start a project without cleaning the house first. So I clean and clean and clean. Next thing I know, it’s supper time. But this happens more often than not. It’s important to me to have a clean house, but I really really need to create, too. So do what you got to do to have a clear mind about the whole thing. I like to recruit my kiddos to help me do a 30 minute pickup everyday now. This has really cut down on the time suckage that is cleaning for me. Anyway, clean up the area you are going to be working in. It’s best not to use a central area, like a kitchen table. But alas, sometimes that is all ya got. Just make sure you can easily pick things up and move them whenever it’s mealtime. Only get out the supplies you actually need. Do you find yourself digging for ten minutes for a spool of thread or a red piece of scrapbook paper? Have this stuff ready to go. Do it the night before if you have to. Need to completely organize all your craft stuff? Me too. Baby steps, people, baby steps.
(Gosh, I need this!)
Second step. Pick a time of day that you can commit at least an hour for you to work. Some people swear by nap time. Personally, I need nap time to relax as well. I have a better time frame sometime after supper. The kids are winding down and I feel like I can actually give up some time for myself. But hey, grab whatever time you can. Just make sure you aren’t going to have to be getting up and down umpteen times to deal with other stuff. Focus!
(This clock is so cool!)
Third step. Relax. Put on some music or any Real Housewives. Or nothing. Whatever floats your boat. I cannot work in chaos and half the time I feel like I’m living my very own Doris Day movie. It is really hard for me to get this step down. Anything that lets you escape from Mommy duties just for a bit.
Okay, maybe that is a little too relaxing. I think I would probably fall asleep. You get the idea!
The best motivation for me is to actually finish a project. When I’m done, I’m so proud of the accomplishment that I usually start preparing a new one.
Still not motivated? Get on Pinterest, craft blogs or pick up a magazine. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Go on now. Get crazy with the cheese whiz.
