Gettin’ Stuff Done – SOA

So, I’ve been a little busy around here.  Taking my own advice. SOA multi-tasking, if you will. Finishing projects.

I’ve finished Jazz and Mila’s suitcases.

I used Ghostrider and X-Men comics books for Jazzton’s.

Mila’s was taken from a book of my mom’s.

Getting some things ready for my sister’s wedding. My first bouquet.  I thought it turned out pretty cute!

And I’ve also been throwing down on lots of hair accessories.

I was hoping to get a lot of things checked off my “to-do” list before vacation.  And we leave tomorrow!  Woot!  I’ve been packed for three days.  Is that weird?  Am I so ready to go?  Oh yes!  See ya when I get back!

Holiday Celebrations

Happy Independence Day! I love celebrating holidays.  One of my favorite things about holidays is making festive food.  I love the memories I am making for my kids and I sure don’t mind the “oohs” and  “aahs” when someone gobbles up the treats.  It makes me happy for people to enjoy my creations.  Here’s a peek of some of what we had over the holiday weekend.

Yummy Fourth of July Pancakes

Star shaped cheese quesadillas

Strawberry mini muffins dyed blue!

We also enjoyed other great food.  I think everyone’s favorite is the homemade ice cream.  Hope you all had a happy weekend celebration!

Get Motivated and Do It! SOA post

Hello all you Rhinestone Armadillo readers!  I have enjoyed reading the guest posts before me and I always enjoy reading what Miss Laura has to say.  I hope that everyone is having a truly awesome Summer!

My Summer would be a lot more awesome if I could get a lot of my projects finished.

Most days I can’t finish a tv show, much less a project.  Know what I mean? But I have to do something.  I need to.  It’s in my dna.  I have found that time is usually not the problem.  It’s motivation.  I want to make some new things for my shop, but by the time I get everything out, I’ve got something else to do.  Sigh.  Such is my life. My other problem is that I see a million and one things that I want to do.  I end up buying supplies for 3 different projects and then don’t do them.  Do you do that?  Well, I want to change this about myself.  Who’s with me?

First step. Get organized.  I feel like I am being unbelievably selfish if I start a project without cleaning the house first.  So I clean and clean and clean.  Next thing I know, it’s supper time.  But this happens more often than not.  It’s important to me to have a clean house, but I really really need to create, too.  So do what you got to do to have a clear mind about the whole thing.  I like to recruit my kiddos to help me do a 30 minute pickup everyday now.  This has really cut down on the time suckage that is cleaning for me.   Anyway, clean up the area you are going to be working in.  It’s best not to use a central area, like a kitchen table.  But alas, sometimes that is all ya got.  Just make sure you can easily pick things up and move them whenever it’s mealtime.  Only get out the supplies you actually need.  Do you find yourself digging for ten minutes for a spool of thread or a red piece of scrapbook paper?  Have this stuff ready to go.  Do it the night before if you have to.  Need to completely organize all your craft stuff?  Me too.  Baby steps, people, baby steps.

(Gosh, I need this!)

Second step.  Pick a time of day that you can commit at least an hour for you to work.  Some people swear by nap time.  Personally, I need nap time to relax as well.  I have a better time frame sometime after supper.  The kids are winding down and I feel like I can actually give up some time for myself.  But hey, grab whatever time you can.  Just make sure you aren’t going to have to be getting up and down umpteen times to deal with other stuff.  Focus!

(This clock is so cool!)

Third step.  Relax.  Put on some music or any Real Housewives.  Or nothing.  Whatever floats your boat. I cannot work in chaos and half the time I feel like I’m living my very own Doris Day movie.  It is really hard for me to get this step down. Anything that lets you escape from Mommy duties just for a bit.

Okay, maybe that is a little too relaxing.  I think I would probably fall asleep.  You get the idea!

The best motivation for me is to actually finish a project.  When I’m done, I’m so proud of the accomplishment that I usually start preparing a new one.

Still not motivated?  Get on Pinterest, craft blogs or pick up a magazine.  Get out of your comfort zone and try something new.  Go on now.  Get crazy with the cheese whiz.

The Kennedy’s

Did any of you watch The Kennedys when it aired on the Reelz channel?  I dvr’d it when it aired and I just now finished it.  I thought it was pretty good.  But, I’m a sucker for a mini-series about people in the public eye.  It always makes them seem so much more human to me.  Even if it’s not a completely accurate portrayal of them, I still feel like I get to know them better.

I hear that Kevin Costner will be starring in a mini-series about the Hatfields and McCoys.  Sounds like another good one.  I wonder if you can Netflix The Thorn Birds?

Remember those movies that they made for tv that starred people from all of the sitcoms of the time?  Those used to be my favorite! Especially Dance Til Dawn.

Hangover 2

Did you love The Hangover?  I did.  I really, really did.  Such a funny movie that I have seen very few movies since then that have been almost as funny.  That’s why I am so very disappointed at how bad The Hangover 2 was.  I mean, really bad.   I think I laughed maybe a handful of times.  I’m not going to bore you with my whole review of the movie, or any movie for that matter.  I either like it, love it, or hate it and that’s all you get!  And frankly, I don’t want to relive it.  Maybe it’s one of those movies that gets funnier the more times you watch it.  Like McGruber. Very very doubtful.

Bridesmaids

If you go see a movie this week, make it Bridesmaids. The Mr. and I saw it last Saturday and it was so good! Laughed until I cried. Seriously.
